Semprini At TIFF
On top of working inhuman office hours, Semprini Records & Signed By Force label owner, Ramachandra Borcar recently completed the original score to Patrick Demers’ visually stunning psychological thriller ‘Jaloux’ (English title ‘Suspicions’) and the film sees its North American debut during this year’s Toronto International Film Fest. The European debut took place in July as part of the prestigious Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic and has already gained international praise.
Borcar’s atonal score for chamber orchestra was inspired by the works of Stravinsky and Herrmann and sits alongside Demers’ vivid cinematography and nonlinear narrative structure creating a disquieting and uneasy atmosphere throughout the film. Read the full program description here.
The TIFF screening times are:
•Wednesday, September 15th - 7PM @ JACKMAN HALL
•Friday September 17th - 12:15PM @ VARSITY 7
Also in film news, Ram recently received a Gemini Award nomination for his jazz score in ‘Karsh Is History’, the biographical documentary by Joseph Hillel on the life and work of portrait photographer Yussef Karsh. He’s also been nominated for a Gémaux Award for the theme music of ‘Comme Par Magie’, a Quebec television series featuring the magician Luc Langevin and directed by Patrick Demers. Ram is currently completing his score for the Sebastien Lange documentary ‘Vanishing Currents’, written for harp, strings and guitar drones.
